SMP2011 Pre-requisites:

• Hardware, Operating System, Miscellaneous Software and Internet Connection. 

  • SMP2011 runs best on newer computers with faster processors and at least 2 GB of RAM. 

  • SMP2011 forms are formatted for high resolution, wide-screen monitors. 

  • Windows 7 is recommended for running SMP2011.  Currently SMP runs on Windows Vista and Windows XP.  However, this may change as Microsoft will no longer support and updated Windows XP in coming years. 

  • SMP requires a properly configured email client like Outlook.  Please verify that Outlook is properly configured before beginning the installation of SMP2011.

  • SMP2011 assumes that the user will have a reliable, high-speed connection to the Internet to upload and download required files.

• SMP2011 requires that either Microsoft Access 2010 or Access 2010 Runtime be installed on the computer that will run SMP2011.  If the computer does not have the full version of Access 2010, the free Runtime version must be installed.  The SMP2011.###F-RT installation file includes both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of the Runtime version of Access 2010.  This installation file is over 400 MB.  A smaller installation file without "-RT", which does not include Access Runtime, is available for download from the lacc-smp.org website.  The installation file will check to see if the full or Runtime version of Access 2010 is installed.  If not, the user will be prompted to download and install Access 2010 Runtime. 
  
  If you use Access for for databases other than SMP, it is strongly recommend that you upgrade to Microsoft Access 2010 or Microsoft Office 2010 Professional that includes the full version of Access 2010.  If there is a previous version of Access already installed (2003 or 2007), the earlier version can continue to be used after SMP2011 is installed.  However, SMP2011 will not run under Access 2003.  SMP2011 does run under Access 2007, but without the customized menu ribbon.  Please note that after installation of SMP2011 and Access 2010 Runtime, if you run Access 2007 the Office Installer will reconfigure Access to that version and SMP2011 will open using Access 2007.  For SMP2011 to run again under Access 2010 Runtime, you must re-associate SMP2011 to run with Access 2010 Runtime by following these steps:

  • Open Windows Explorer (file manager)

  • Navigate to c:\lacc and find file SMP2011.accdb

  • Right click this file and select "Open with" and "Choose Program..."

  • Select Microsoft Access that has this icon logo (the one that includes the letter A with a key):

  • Double click on the SMP2011 shortcut on the desktop to continue.

• Data File smpdata.mdb.  SMP2011 requires a SMP2007C2 or later version data file.  The typical user will have this file in c:\lacc.  However, some offices may have this file on a network drive.  This file will be upgraded to SMP2011 format on first installation.

• Two utility programs--WinZip Professional 14.5 and WinZip Command Line 3.0--are installed during the first-time installation of SMP2011 to folder c:\lacc\winzip.  These programs are legally licensed by LACC.  Both programs must be installed to this location for SMP2011 to function properly.

Installation files and versions:  SMP2011 has three types of installation files.

• Full Version WITH Microsoft Access 2010 Runtime.  The installation file for this version follows this pattern:  SMP2011###F-RT.exe (where ### is the version number).  This is a large (400+ MB) Full installation version that includes the two WinZip utility programs and Microsoft Access 2010 Runtime.  The Full installation copies and creates needed files and folders.  It only needs to be used for first-time installation of SMP2011.  Subsequent installations will use Update versions.

• Full Version WITHOUT Access 2010 Runtime.  The installation file for this version follows this pattern:  SMP2011###F.exe (where ### is the version number).  This is a Full installation version that includes the two WinZip utility programs but does NOT include Microsoft Access 2010 Runtime.  However, the installer checks to see if Access 2010 full or Runtime is installed.  If not, it prompts to download and install Access 2010 Runtime.  The Full installation copies and creates needed files and folders.  It only needs to be used for first-time installation of SMP2011.  Subsequent installations will use Update versions.  The latest version of the Full Version w/o Access 2010 RT may be downloaded from the lacc-smp.org website.

• Update Version.  The installation file for this version follows this pattern:  SMP2011###.zip (where ### is the version number).  The Update Version will be in WinZip format and will contain file smp2011.accdb that must be extracted to c:\lacc to replace the existing version.
